Estimate your monthly DEA payment based on training type and enrollment rate — using 2026 VA payment tables.

About Chapter 35 DEA payments: Unlike the Post-9/11 GI Bill, Chapter 35 pays a flat monthly stipend directly to you — it does not pay tuition directly to the school. You are responsible for paying tuition from the stipend. Rates are set by Congress and adjusted periodically for cost of living.

How Chapter 35 Payments Work

📬 Payment Goes to You

Unlike the GI Bill, DEA payments go directly to the student — not the school. You pay tuition yourself from the monthly stipend.

📅 Paid Monthly in Arrears

Payments are made at the end of each month of enrollment. Enrollment must be certified by your school's VA certifying official each term.

🎓 45 Month Total

You have 45 months of DEA entitlement total. Full-time enrollment for 4 years uses about 48 months — you'll need to plan carefully to avoid running out.

📈 Annual COLA Increases

DEA rates increase with cost-of-living adjustments typically each October. The 2026 full-time institutional rate is $1,354/month.
